How We Started
Indivisible: Downriver United 734 didn’t start in a boardroom or with a grant — it started the way a lot of grassroots movements do: with frustration, determination, and the realization that doing nothing wasn’t an option.
After the 2024 election, Jess and Ashley were tired of yelling at the TV and feeling powerless while decisions were being made that directly affected their lives, their families, and their community. They both knew something had to change — and that change had to start locally.
Independently, they found their way into an online Indivisible meeting. During that meeting, they started chatting and quickly realized something surprising: they both lived Downriver, less than three miles from each other. They exchanged contact information, and within days had the same realization: Downriver needed its own Indivisible group.
And just like that, Indivisible: Downriver United 734 was born.
Since launching in March 2025, DU734 has grown into a movement of more than 1,200 members, united by a shared belief that democracy works best when people show up, speak out, and take care of one another.

What We Do
DU734 is more than a meeting, we are a community in action. Our work includes:
- Peaceful protests and demonstrations to defend democracy and hold leaders accountable.
- Community events that bring people together, build relationships, and create space for conversation.
- Mutual aid and giveback efforts, including holiday drives and direct community support.
- Outreach and education, helping neighbors understand issues, legislation, and how to make their voices heard.
- Coalition building, working alongside local groups, campaigns, and community leaders.
Everything we do is rooted in the belief that local action matters — and that real change starts when neighbors stand together.
